Free Mulch

City of Riverside Residents and Businesses Save Water and Money with Free Mulch

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Riverside Public Works is now offering FREE garden mulch to City of Riverside residents, non-profit organizations and businesses.

Mulch is made from your own garden and landscape.  The City collects greenwaste (i.e. grass clippings, dried leaves, branches and other organic yard trimmings) generated by residents and commercial businesses as part of the recycling program.  The greenwaste is then taken to the Agua Mansa Transfer Station and processed into mulch.

“Public Works is thrilled to be able to offer the FREE mulch program because it gives the City the opportunity to give back to the community and the environment by converting unusable green material into a valuable resource” said Siobhan Foster, Public Works Director.

There are many benefits to using mulch for your landscaping and garden needs:

-        Increases soil’s organic content;

-        Reduces water usage by keeping moisture in the soil which saves money;

-        Controls soil erosion;

-        Suppresses weed growth;

-        Builds sound root structures; and

-        Makes your garden more attractive.

“As more Riverside residents turn to home and community gardens, the City’s free mulch program benefits individuals, and the environment itself,” said Mayor Ron Loveridge.

Pick up your FREE mulch at the Agua Mansa Transfer Station Scale House located at 1830 Agua Mansa Road, Riverside, California.  Hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mulch will be loaded directly into pickups or vehicles with trailers.  Passenger cars or vans must bring containers or bags.  Proof of residency or business location must be provided.  A driver’s license or City of Riverside utility bill are preferred.
